Rocket Ball – A New Outdoor Sport

Rocket Ball is a new outdoor sport in which two teams compete to score the most points by throwing the ball at the opposing team's post.

πŸ“Š Scoring Rules:

  • If the ball hits the post and bounces back, then touches the ground – 2 points
  • If a teammate catches the ball before it touches the ground – 4 points
  • If the ball hits the post and bounces outside of the ground – 5 points
  • If the opposing team catches the ball – the thrower is declared "out"

⏱️ Out Rule:

  • An out player must stay off the field for 1 minute
  • After returning, the player cannot throw at the post
  • The player can continue as a defensive and support player

The Story Behind Rocket Ball

Rocket Ball was created by me, Gopala Krishnan, in 2003, inspired by my brother Satheesh, who was unable to play outdoor games due to a health condition. To keep him engaged, I arranged plastic bottles for him to throw a ball at. While he could occasionally knock them down, the bottles would topple over too easily, so I replaced them with a pole. When the ball struck the pole, it would rebound to the ground β€” and from that simple moment, the core concept of Rocket Ball was born. In the original rules, if the ball touched the ground after hitting the pole, the thrower earned 2 points, while catching the rebound earned the fielding team 2 points. Over the past decade, the game has evolved significantly, and today it has grown into a well-structured sport.
